Minimum Requirements to Become a Qantas Flight Attendant
To join Qantas as a cabin crew member, there are a few essential requirements that candidates must meet. Firstly, you must be at least 18 years old.
For most of our airline operations, cabin crew must be between 163cm and 186cm tall. However, for QantasLink (Sunstate and Eastern operations), the required height range is between 158cm and 183cm.
Additionally, you must be legally eligible to live and work in Australia, which means holding Australian or New Zealand permanent residency.
If you're applying from the UK (QCCUK), you must have the legal right to live and work there.
A valid passport is also a must, ensuring unrestricted access to all Qantas destinations, with at least 12 months' validity remaining. Meeting these minimum criteria is the first step toward becoming part of the Qantas cabin crew team and embarking on an exciting career.

What to wear to the Assessment Day at Qantas?
When dressing for your Qantas assessment day, it's important to follow the airline's grooming policy to ensure you make a positive impression. Here are some guidelines:
Nails: Keep your nails clear, nude, or french polished.
Shoes: Choose low heels (1-2 cm) or high heels (6-7 cm). Flats are acceptable during in-flight service only.
Tattoos: If you have tattoos, it's best to cover them. A long sleeve can help conceal larger tattoos, while a small tattoo on the wrist can usually be covered with a band-aid.

Qantas Assessment Day Break down and Guide
To prepare for your Qantas assessment day, make sure to gather all your important documents, such as your birth certificate, passport, license, name change records, and any relevant certifications like RSA and first aid. Be sure to have copies of everything so you're fully prepared when you receive that confirmation email. The whole assessment day takes about 3 hours. If you're married and have changed your name, take a photo copy of your marriage certificate along with the original and get that signed and verified on the day. You'll need this as part of your ASICS application to prove when you're name was legally changed.
Arrival Time: The assessment day usually starts at 09:00 AM, but it’s best to arrive around 8:30. This gives you a chance to meet other candidates and chat before things begin. Everyone is super friendly, so don’t hesitate to strike up a conversation!
Phones: Remember, no phones allowed. It’s easy to forget, but make sure your phone is either turned off or left in your car to avoid any distractions.
Table Assignment: Once you’re invited into the room, you’ll be assigned a table randomly. Take this time to connect with others and offer water from the pitcher in the middle of the table—it’s a small gesture that makes a good impression.
Group Assessment and Scenarios: You will be given a scenario to work out with those involved in on your team, the scenarios change but generally involve solving a problem among a group of passengers that have various requirements.

During the group activity at the assessment day, we were given a scenario where a spaceship of aliens had arrived, and we were tasked with identifying five key attributes of Qantas to describe to them. We had 15 minutes to list these attributes in point form and then present them to the assessors. Halfway through, the scenario changed: the aliens could not speak our language, and we were asked to find a way to represent each of the five attributes through drawings.
The main goal of this exercise is not necessarily to see the specific attributes you come up with, but to observe how you interact with your group members (typically in groups of six). The assessors are looking for strong teamwork, effective communication, and how well you listen to others. Additionally, they want to see how quickly you adapt and jump into action when the task is altered. This activity is designed to test your problem-solving skills, collaboration, and ability to stay calm and focused under changing circumstances.

Medical Check to Become a Flight Attendant for Qantas
The medical check is thorough and can take about 1.5 hours. It includes a doping urine test, alcohol test, hearing and vision assessments, and various physical exercises like push-ups, squats ( up to 15), and stair climbing (3 minutes). Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and, if possible, prepare in advance. Medicals are valid for only 3 months, so you won’t need to complete one until after clearing reference, background, and security checks. Typically, you’ll be asked to do the medical once you’ve been given a start date for ground school. Please take glasses and medication (photos) you take with you. This will help with the assessment. You may lift small weights to make sure physical flexibility and mobility.

To ensure the safety of passengers and crew, all prospective Qantas cabin crew members must meet a critical physical requirement: the ability to swim 50 metres fully clothed, unassisted, and tread water for at least 3 minutes.
